Tongan officials heard that the around the world yacht race would be passing the Tongan Islands, so instructed Walsall Security Printers to design and issue a set commemorating the yacht race. As there was very little time left, Walsall decided to overprint two stamps from the recently issued Heilala Festival with the words “Tonga welcomes round the world yacht race 1991” in gold and silver on both stamps meaning the set would be 4 stamps in total, the turtle stamp being overprinted in gold and then in silver and same with the fruit stamp. Two sheets were printed but not yet perforated to check how the overprinting looked. The printers then realized that the overprinting was quite hard to read and decided to quickly print a minature sheet showing the yachts instead.

The set for sale shown in the first picture is the unissued and imperforated set from one of the two sheets done. The second picture shows the issued S/S overprinted specimen. Both the scarce imperf set and the specimen sheet are included in this listing.

All payments are to be made via PayPal or Mangopay, depending on the possibilities offered by the seller. No payments are to be made by neither cheque, bank transfer nor cash directly to the seller.

Australia Post SMALL international registration envelope - 10.00 euros - used for smaller items and smaller covers.

Australia Post LARGE international registration envelope - 16.00 euros - used for larger items and larger covers. NOTE there is no tracking with registered letters. Tracking costs a little bit more.

On certain occasions if large total is purchased, tracking may be required and I will advise the cost - currently it is 21.00 euros

NOTE - IMPORTANT - WHEN REGISTRATION IS COMPULSORY

Registration fee MUST be paid when:-

1. Total cost of items purchased is over 60 euros.
2. Any country I deem necessary because of risk.
